The Whitehead Road contract located in Mercer County, New Jersey involved the demolition of an existing three (3) span bridge, and the construction of the replacement structure. The new structure was built in the exact alignment as the existing structure, and also span over Amtrak's Northeast Corridor.

The new bridge consists of a poured in place concrete deck supported on a three (3) span continuous steel girder superstructure. There are seven (7) girder lines that are continuous from abutment to abutment. The new structure also required two new abutments, two large, cast-in-place retaining walls and two precast retaining walls.

All work operations required extensive coordination and cooperation with the railroad, due to the high speed trains and overhead power lines.

The project required the development of a Health and Safety Plan, and the implementation of a Soil Reuse Plan for contaminated soils.

The project also involved a great deal of road construction, drainage, utility relocations, and paving. One of the utility relocations involved jacking 200′ of 16″ steel casing under the Northeast Corridor.

The project was completed on time and within budget.
