The scope of this project involved the construction of a new bypass highway, through an undeveloped area, crossing over the Amtrak mainline, and intersecting with US Route 1.
The roadwork activities included site clearing, grading & stockpiling, roadway excavation, wet excavation, and borrow excavation. There was also a new drainage system installed for the length of the highway.
This drainage system included new pipes, manholes, chambers, headwalls, and the reconstruction and modification of some existing facilities. The project also involved the jacking of drainage pipes in place. Also included was traffic signalization and landscaping.
The construction of the new bypass required a bridge over Amtrak's mainline. This structure consisted of steel stringers supporting a reinforced concrete slab. All footings for the abutments are supported on steel H-Piles. The excavations for these footings, adjacent to Amtrak, r equired steel sheeting and shoring.
Several Amtrak catenary and signal structures were modified for the new bridge alignment. This contract included new foundation construction and pole relocations. This required strict compliance with the Amtrak safety and work regulations, and coordination with their work forces.
The project was completed on time and within budget.
