The work of this contract consisted of the construction of the Burlington County Solid Waste Facility located in Florence Township. The contract was broken down into four stages, each with its own completion date and liquidated damages.
The major items of construction associated with this contract were: site clearing & grading, drainage facilities, landfill development, and building construction.
The landfill development required mass excavations in clay to design elevations. Drainage materials and a 2′ thick sand filter layer was installed above the entire compacted clay liner. Also constructed were several sedimentation basins and drainage basins. Due to the project location and mass excavations, wetlands mitigation was required.
Along with the construction of the landfill, the project included disposal and maintenance building facilities. Some of the structures built under this contract include the following: scale house and scales, elevated water tank, water distribution system, and the transfer station. Also constructed was a leachate treatment facility, a 200,000 gallon steel leachate storage tank, maintenance building, and the administration building. The project also included the construction of access roads, parking lots and drainage facilities.
This project was completed on time and within budget.
